3 Days, 3 Football Games
October 26, 2009I’ve been pretty busy this past week with assignments coming in for the San Bernardino Sun/Inland Valley Daily Bulletin and had 3 football games Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Usually its just a Friday night game, so this is pretty unusual for me.
Thursday’s was at Ganesha High School between Pomona and Baldwin Park. For high school’s, the lights there are fairly decent but I still had to shoot at ISO 3200. Flash didn’t come into play besides some fill under the helmets.

Friday’s game was at San Gorgonio High School between them and Cajon in San Bernardino. I always wondered where that school was, its on the border of Highland. The lights there were less than stellar, but still not the worst I’d seen. The game action was fairly decent despite what the score was when I left at halftime. As with all games I cover for the newspapers, I can’t stay through the end of the game due to my deadline for publication.

Saturday’s game was certainly my favorite, Chaffey College vs Citrus College. Luckily since the game started at 6 pm instead of 7 for high schools, I was able to get 5-10 min of light on the players before it turned to straight stadium lights. I had to make sure to take advantage of this since the lights at Chaffey are worse than some high schools. Unfortunately the action at the beginning was not that great for photos.

Since my recreation shooting mostly entails landscapes and travel, you know I’m a sucker for a nice sunset. Luckily, the Chaffey College stadium sits a top a hill making it perfect for including the sunset in the shots. Unfortunately the action never lined up with the sunset between the buildings while shooting with my 300. So before I missed it, I shot wide with my 70-200 to pickup the atmosphere of the game that afternoon. This is by far my favorite shot of the 3 days. Thanks for visiting!
